Pete is a cartoon character created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. He first appeared in Disney's Alice Comedies series as a bear named Bootleg Pete acting as a recurring villain for Alice and Julius. Pete then became a rival for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and then for Mickey Mouse, changing his design from a bear to a cat.
Origin[]
He is often depicted as the cartoon protagonist's abusive, cigar-smoking boss (though in the case of Steamboat Willie, he could be considered a reasonable force), or a rival for the affection of Minnie Mouse or Sadie, being successful on rare occasion.
In some Alice Comedies cartoons, he can be seen commanding a group of mouse henchmen.
