Current Railway; BlueBell Railway

Origin[]

Stepney was built in 1875 at Brighton Works and later rebuilt in 1912 as an A1X, he arrived at the Bluebell Railway in 1960 and the first engine to be rescued by the railway. Stepney is painted in Stroudley "Improved Engine Green" and numbered 55.

In the year 1977 someone decided to paint a face on the engines smokebox door while it was awaiting overhauls, causing him to be sent "get well soon" letters, this caused a fundraiser to be started which helped Stepney finally be overhauled.
